Story Jamming to a Better World (ID #001)
Date: 4/14/2008 to 5/11/2008
Duration: 4 weeks
Hosts: Matt H, David Braden
Topic(s): 1
Overview:
Here at global mindshift, we often talk about the kind of things that we need to do have a global mindshift happen, what the key values are, how we should change our perceptions and our minds. All these things are vitally important, but it is also important to practice the things we talk about. The two things that this conversation is meant to practice are community building - true collaborative social skills, and creative connection and storytelling.
The basic idea of this conversation is to use role playing games called story games to explore how we get to the future we want to see. To, in essence, create a collaborative story about how we enact a global mindshift and practice some of the skills to get there at the same time. It is a hard thing to explain, but look here and here for an intro, and I can tell you that it is going to be an awesome experience.
The basis for the ideas we are talking about is a story by David Braden about what needs to happen to change the world - you don't have to agree with the story to participate, just read it.
Topic 1: Intro to Story Games & Begining (weeks 1 - 4)
Here we talk about what story games are, and , most importantly, decide exactly how we are going to do our story game and get started on creation of the setting and our characters. We will also be discussing, just briefly, David's story.
