Kern Beare, Executive Director

In 2005, Kern left his position as vice president of corporate communications at a major high-tech company in San Jose, California, to join Global MindShift as executive director. In addition to his business background, Kern and his wife, Amy, taught English in Mainland China for two years and have traveled extensively throughout South East Asia. Kern and Amy live in Mountain View, California, and have two sons, age 20 and 13.

Kara Chanasyk, Board of Directors

Kara is a user interface designer who designs for simplicity; creating intelligent, compelling experiences for the web and mobile. Kara joined Stanford's Persuasive Technology Lab in 2007 where she contributes to projects such as Texting for Persuasion and the Psychology of Facebook. As the principal of White Lotus Design LLC, Kara consults on web strategy and interface design that embody user-centered design principles and persuasive strategies.

Patrick Dippery, Board of Directors

Patrick Dippery has worked for 20 years in a career spanning politics, as a Washington DC based lobbyist and campaign organizer; international business development, holding executive positions with The Economist and BusinessWeek; and as a senior business development manager or consultant for several IT/internet ventures during the past 10 years. He has worked, lived or traveled in some 45 countries and is conversant in Spanish. He lives with his wife, Wendy, and their two sons, age 7 & 4, in San Francisco.

Paula Johnson, Board of Directors

Paula Johnson has dedicated the past twenty years institutionalizing, legitimizing and integrating the healing arts into the health care system in the United States. Her work incorporating policy on a State and Federal level for education, clinical practice and research, continues through her board memberships with Beth Israel Hospital, NY, Chopra Foundation, Tai Sophia Institute in Maryland, California Pacific Hospital and Donna Karan's Foundation, Urban Zen. Her partnership with Robert Kennedy, Jr. on watershed, river and stream issues on the state level has changed legislation countrywide. She continues to lobby and raise funds for Jim and Sarah Brady, Handgun Control, on gun legislation in Washington DC and animal rights causes in the US. She introduced the "Red Light Camera" to the U.S and helped write the legislation to allow NY State to be the first State to use the camera. This model is now in all states. Paula is a credentialed Mediator.

Richard Rathbun, Education and Content Director

Richard Rathbun, board chairman of Foundation for Global Community, has worked, lived, or traveled extensively in over 50 countries and is conversant in several languages. A Stanford graduate in architecture, his work has focused upon international development, human development, peace and consciousness, including conflict resolution in such areas as the former Soviet Union, Afghanistan and Central America. He is currently devoted to exploring the emerging global culture and how it derives from new information from the sciences.

Bill Wall, Chief Financial Officer

Bill Wall, a financial professional with 35 years of progressive experience in the hi-tech industry, is currently chief financial officer at the Foundation for Global Community, where he also volunteers his time to serve the same function for Global MindShift. In addition to finance, Bill has extensive expertise in investment, property, and project management, and information systems. A graduate of San Jose State University, Bill is married, has three children, and resides in San Jose, California.
